Consumers just don’t want to be tracked

This gallup poll show that a majority of consumers would rather just not be tracked. But it’s not the tracking that bothers them, it is the potential for bad behavior by the trackers. There is no trust. Apparently, a self-regulating industry hasn’t convinced consumers of its ability to self regulate.

On the heels of the FTC’s proposed do not track ideas, Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) and Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) are proposing bills of their own. In general, consumers don’t like advertising. In this same poll. 90% of respondents said they never or rarely looked at any ads online. And to date, over 86 million people have downloaded and installed the browser plugin, Adblock plus.

How do you feel about being tracked? Would you, if given the option, just turn off all tracking?
